The word "angel" (Greek "angelos", Latin "angelus", Hebrew "mal'akh"), means "sent", "ground", "messenger". People of all cultures and all times, not only in the Christian or Jewish area, but also in Egypt, the ancient Greeks and Romans, the Hindus, Muslims, Tibet and China, have believed and continue to believe in their existence and regard them as righteous ambassadors of the Divine.

"An angel is an image of God, a manifestation of the unseen light, a fiery reflection, luminous, unstained, spotless, flawless, full of all the beauty of divine goodness, in which the mysterious divine silence radiates eternally." Dionysius Areopagite

Angels are not mere messengers, we find them as divine protectors and guides in the great religions of the world.

Angels reflect divine perfection: infinite goodness and generosity, capable of unlimited love and always enjoying great happiness that they want to share with us. They instantly know the countless consequences of a principle or the myriad facets of reality. They know the secrets of Nature, they master the laws that govern the Universe, they are the keepers of a vast science and infinite wisdom. They work constantly for the good of man, always and everywhere. Even if we do not perceive their presence and give them no thought, angels watch over us at all times, help us in difficult moments and protect us from all kinds of dangers.

Angels are everywhere: they watch over our homes, accompany us on our journeys, are there for those who are suffering and need support and comfort in times of discouragement. Unconstrained by the laws of matter, they can move with a speed unimaginable to us, who are bound by the laws of space and time; we need only think of them and they are immediately at our side, ready to offer us their precious help.

Throughout the Universe, each angel has a specific task. Galaxies, planets, stars or, if we are talking about the world we live in, oceans, rivers, cities, nations, are entrusted to the supervision of angels. In order to carry out their mission on Earth, they devote their whole being to guiding and protecting people.

Angels are much more concerned with our souls than with our bodies, and they are like spiritual guides who help us in various ways with great selflessness to turn to God. The angels really enjoy our return to God and celebrate it with special feast days.

The angels protect us both on land and at sea, they purify our body and our flesh, they urge us to awaken and amplify in our being the divine virtues, they urge and impel us to raise our thoughts to God as often as possible, they console us when we are faced with various sorrows and they watch over us when we are tried and if we ask them for help we can get through the temptations that arise in our lives.

When we are afflicted by sickness and approaching death, they visit us, strengthen us, defend us against evil spirits and after helping us to repeat victories that are pleasing to God, they accompany us to heaven or help us when it is necessary to remain in purgatory.

Angels are beings endowed with a higher consciousness than people, a holy and uncorrupted spirit, endowed with a free will.

Angels manifest exemplary integrity, goodwill, obedience to God.

They have a will of their own, but because they are familiar with many divine attributes, angels most often prefer to do God's will because of their boundless love for God.

All the angelic attributes - selflessness, enthusiasm, self-denial, humility, purity, godly goodness, detachment, deep peace, and many others - they have in a degree and intensity that is far superior to man.

The moral character of angels is far superior to the moral character of human beings.

The intellectual nature of angels is far superior to human beings. Always angels desire all that pertains to the Divine Ultimate Truth.

As true "spiritual fathers", they suggest to us the divine virtues that we need to practice in order to fully awaken them in our inner universe.

"We are like children: we need teachers to enlighten and guide us. God has taken care of this by telling his angels to be our teachers and spiritual guides." Thomas Aquinas
